Above and below: Views around the new Little Tring Bridge. The old one was demolished in the 1960's.

For a short distance one could well be on the Llangollen or some other similar canal for the Wendover on the section westwards of Tringford Pumping Station dramatically hugs the hillsides above a small but steeply sided valley. In decribing this quite dramatic picture taken with a zoom lens (below) from either Little Tring Bridge or the farm track on the other side of the valley one can look across to see the canal hugging the contours on what one might describe as something like a dog-leg horseshoe. In the picture below, looking along the farm track (that now serves as an access road to the new section of canal known as Phase One) the top parapets of the new Little Tring Bridge can be seen about midway along the road on the far left as it climbs steeply up the hillside. A look through the fencing reveals buildings which are clearly well below the level of the canal. The farm track used to be the canal itself, and this section was infilled during the 1970's, becoming a linear tip for about 270 metres when the old pipeline lnking the two sections of watered canal was taken out of use.
