THE RAIL CROSSING TO WENDOVER

This last stretch of canal runs southwards into Wendover and it is a popular stretch for walking. The last section of canal widens out and is like a small park. The wharf buildings that used to stand at the terminus have gone. The very end of the canal recieves a supply clear water from the Chiltern Hills that ends up replenishing the remainder of the Southern Grand Union Canal system. The water comes form the Wendover Springs and it is one of the oldest recorded hydrometric flows to be charted - records date from 1841 and possibly even earlier.
